To practice athletic training in the Commonwealth of Kentucky, each professional must apply for a state license.  This includes all practicing athletic trainers who are BOC certified, even those classified as graduate assistant athletic trainers and athletic trainers who perform seasonal work in Kentucky (i.e. professional sports team affiliates, summer camp coverage, etc).  Eligibility includes successfully passing the national certification examination from the Board of Certification, Inc. (BOC) and being in good standing with the BOC.  The state license is granted by the Kentucky Board of Medical Licensure.  Prior to being granted a state license, all applications are reviewed by the Advisory Council on Athletic Trainers.
