HONORS & AWARDS

In order to recognize those individuals whose achievements promote and exemplify the athletic training profession in Kentucky, KATS solicits nominations for specific awards on an annual basis with the winners being announced at the KATS annual meeting.

Dr. Phillip Hurley Sports Medicine Person of the Year

 

This award may be given annually to a non-Athletic Trainer who has and continues to display support for and made contributions to the profession of Athletic Training and its advancement in the State of Kentucky.  This may include but not limited to:

  • Physicians

  • Athletic Directors

  • Hospital/Clinic Administrators

  • State/KMA/KBML officials

Clinical/Occupational Health Athletic Trainer of the Year
 

Given to a Kentucky licensed Athletic Trainer who works in the Clinical/Occupational Health setting that distinguishes themselves through their work in the field of Athletic Training.  This may include but not limited to the following settings:

  • Clinical setting

  • Industrial setting

  • Performing Arts

  • First Responders

  • Military setting

  • Professional Sports

  • Youth Sports

The Tom Simmons Award

Named in honor of Tom Simmons, ATC the Head Athletic Trainer Emeritus at Murray State University and founding member of KATS.  The Tom Simmons Award is given to a Kentucky licensed Athletic Trainer who has served with distinction and retired from an Athletic Training position in Kentucky.  Not necessarily presented annually.

 


 

Award of Merit

Given to a Kentucky Licensed Athletic Trainer who distinguishes themselves in the profession of Athletic Training.  Going above and beyond as a health care provider in the prevention, care, and rehabilitation of injuries and advancing the profession in the state of Kentucky.






 

High School Athletic Trainer of the Year
 

Given to a Kentucky licensed Athletic Trainer who has distinguished themselves in the high school setting.  this individual has promoted and advanced the profession of Athletic Training at the high school level tirelessly working with their athletes and school community.  This individual may be employed by the school system or by a hospital/clinic/physician practice.

Sponsorship Award

Given to a company or organization that provides/continues to provide valuable contributions to the Profession of Athletic Training in the State of Kentucky.  Not necessarily given annually.

 





 



 

College/University Athletic Trainer of the Year


Given to a Kentucky Licensed Athletic Trainer employed at the college/university level who has distinguished themselves through their work ethic and support of the profession within the State of Kentucky.  This may include:

  • Head Athletic Trainers

  • Assistant Athletic Trainers

  • Post Graduate/Resident/Fellow Athletic Trainers

 

AT Educator/Preceptor of the Year

Given to a Kentucky licensed Athletic Trainer who works tirelessly to help educate our future generations of Athletic Trainers in the field or the classroom.

Kentucky Athletic Trainers' Society Hall of Fame

Given to a Kentucky licensed Athletic Trainer who has spent a minimum of 15 years of their career in the State of Kentucky.  this individual will have dedicated their career to assisting the athletes of Kentucky and their fellow Athletic Trainers by advancing the profession.  They will have the highest level of professionalism and devotion to the profession.  Not necessarily given annually.
