KATS Awards

These are the awards and scholarships currently offered by KATS.   Awards are presented annually at the KATS Symposium and Business meeting.  Nominations for awards can be made via e-mail to Bill Welsh, Awards and Scholarship Committee Chair at Region3@kyats.com. Each nomination should include the full name of the person you are nominating, the award you are nominating them for, and a brief statement why you consider this person deserving of the award. Application deadline for all 2008 Awards and Scholarships is January 5, 2008.

 

Sports Medicine Person of the Year

This award is given to a non- athletic trainer that has made a valuable contribution to the field of athletic training and the Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society.

Award of Merit

This award is given to a Certified Athletic Trainer that distinguishes him or herself in the profession of athletic training and to the Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society.

College/ University Athletic Trainer of the Year

This award is given to a Certified Athletic Trainer employed in the college/ university setting that distinguishes him or herself in the profession of athletic training and to the Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society.

Clinical Athletic Trainer of the Year

This award is given to a Certified Athletic Trainer employed in the clinical/ industrial setting that distinguishes him or herself in the profession of athletic training and to the Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society.

High School Athletic Trainer of the Year

This award is given to a Certified Athletic Trainer employed in the high school setting that distinguishes him or herself in the profession of athletic training and to the Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society.

Sponsorship Award

This award is given to a company or organization that provides a valuable contribution to the profession of athletic training and the Kentucky Athletic Trainers’ Society.

The Tom Simmons Award

Named in honor of Tom Simmons ATC, the Head Athletic Trainer Emeritus at Murray State University and founding member of KATS.  The Simmons Award is given to any Certified Athletic Trainer who has served with distinction and retired from a job setting in Kentucky.  This award is not presented annually.

Undergraduate Scholarship ($500.00)

Presented to an undergraduate student. 

Eligibility Requirements
1. MUST be a member of KATS.
2. Must at least be second year Athletic Training Students in a CAAHEP accredited program or at least second year Student Aides in a College/University Athletic Training program.
3. Must have performed their duties with distinction.
4. Must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

To apply the student must fill out and submit the application form (link below), provide a transcript from every institution they have attended and submit three completed recommendation forms.  At least one of these recommendations must be from someone other then an Athletic Trainer.

Graduate Scholarship ($500.00)

Presented to a graduate student.

Eligibility Requirements
1. MUST hold or have completed requirements for an undergraduate degree.
2. MUST be a member of KATS.
3. Must have completed a CAAHEP accredited program OR served for at least two years as a student aide in a college/university Athletic Training setting.
4. Must have performed his/her duties with distinction.
5. Must signify his/her intention to continue academic work at the graduate level as a full-time graduate student and either be enrolled as or met admission requirements for a graduate program at a college or university in Kentucky.

To apply the student must fill out and submit the application form (link below), provide a transcript from every institution they have attended and submit three completed recommendation forms.  At least one of these recommendations must be from someone other then an Athletic Trainer.
